Crew Info

Derek Shuttleworth - aka "Skip"
Derek has covered a whopping 100 000 Nautical Miles (that's more than twice around the planet!). This included a trip in 2003 when he skippered for a group of previously disadvantaged youths on a circumnavigation of Africa to promote awareness of HIV & AIDS. This will be Derek's 3rd Cape to Rio.

Andre van Selm - alt. Skipper
Andre's sailing career began 35 years ago & has covered a wide range of disciplines. His history also includes Naval training & he is currently the CEO of Sanlam's Reality Program. Andre is married to the lovely Carice & they have three great little ones - David, Justin & Emily. Andre likes beer. Alot.

Sathiselan Moodley - "Saths"
As the least experienced sailor in the crew, Saths has recently acquired his Competent Crew qualification, so he must then be the quickest learner - right? Saths brings his years of fishing experience to the team & will hopefully supplying dinner on a few occasions during the crossing! Saths works as an advisor to the Urban Poor Fund which aids slum dwellers in 33 countries around he world & when he finds time off he is quick to spend it with his 7 year-old son Sheylen.

Murray Beaumont  - a.k.a "Hazard" Beaumont

Murray has undoubtedly the largest head in the crew - physically speaking! This is perhaps why he is the only of the 3 "yooungsters" to have completed his University career, qualifying as a Mechanical Engineer in 2010. The Cape to Rio is the kick-off to what will undoubtedly be a fabulous gap year for Murray. He is planning on staying in South America & doing... well whatever he finds! Any one got any ideas...?

Michael Bissett - "Biscuit"

Of the 3 youths in the team, Mike is the only one who can confidently keep a boat afloat. Mike has had an exciting & varied sailing career, representing the country on Dingies in the Commonwealth Games as well as on J-22's at Worlds. Mike is taking the scenic route to a degree in Mechatronics Engineering & will hopefully ensure we go the correct direction - towards Rio!

Alex Antrobus - the "Normal" one

Alex has (repeatedly) been voted the least "Normal" member of his digs. Considering that he lives with both Mike & Murray, this is quite a... well... title?! Alex is fairly new to sailing, having joined Me2Me as a crew member in 2008. His more regular sports include running, cycling & canoeing. Alex has recently completed a BSc. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics & Physics & will be enrolling for an Honours in Appled Mathematics - after Rio that is!
